Ipanema: Brazil’s guilty pleasure

Ipanema17

I could write about how Ipanema is an affluent bubble surrounded by impoverished hillside favelas (slums) that are synonymous with economic inequality in Brazil. Or how Ipanema is an escape from the troubles Rio has been having simultaneously getting ready for the World Cup and the 2016 Olympics. Or how Ipanema’s stunning backdrop is a part of the once great Atlantic Forest, an ecological gem that originally spanned nearly 600,000 square miles but now survives only in tiny fragments. But why spoil the fun. Brazil is a great country, Brazilians are beautiful people, and Ipanema is a spectacular beach.
