It is home to 1.2 billion people, roughly 1,000 languages and dialects, is the birthplace of four major religions and continues to be among the most culturally and religiously diverse places anywhere on the planet. India isn’t another country, even another continent, it is another world.

I don’t pretend to have captured anything nearing India’s diversity here, just some of the people I came across during a three-month trip through the country. The images below are from the western states of Kerala, Goa, and Rajasthan.
